How you normally live and what you plan on using the kitchen space for, is another deciding factor between peninsulas and islands. As mentioned earlier, peninsulas generally close off a certain section of the kitchen by creating a border between the cooking space and the dining or living space. If you don’t plan on doing lots of entertaining in your kitchen and you want a bit of privacy when cooking, a peninsula is a much better choice than an island in your kitchen.
