It’s the newest phenomena in many homes today. No longer is it required to have an entire room dedicated to a home office. With technological advances, many people are starting to work from home becoming entrepreneurs and creating their own niche in the world. This trend will continue to increase.

A lot of people look at the amount of floor space available in a tiny kitchen, and miss a lot of opportunities for storage by overlooking the walls. Yes, you likely already have cabinets or shelving installed, but most kitchens still have unused wall space that you could be taking advantage of. Store things on top of your cabinets if there is room between them and your ceiling. Invest in pot racks to free up cabinet space, and install backsplash shelving and utensil holders to get things like knives, spices, and strainers off of counters and out of drawers where you can find them more easily. Use the freed up space to store items you don’t currently have a home for.

It is perfect for lower cabinetry and most especially if you can pair it with a lighter hue, say, Dove White. This softer shade of white is light and luminous, which makes it the perfect candidate for painting kitchen trims and mouldings. It also works well if contrasted with light grey.

Stainless steel counter-tops paired with exposed, rough-hewn wooden beams create the perfect atmosphere of earthy modern style that the homeowner wanted, rounded off nicely by the choice of neutral colors. Straight, clean lines, seen in the cupboard handles, the wooden floor planks, and the pendant lighting, give the space a stable sense of direction. The choice of dirty white for the cupboards, white accessories, and light gray for the island prevent the dark tones from overpowering the room, bringing an equal amount of light and open feel to the space. Glass accessories were also chosen to keep things light and to balance the solid accents. Wrought-metal furniture around the slate gray dining table counterbalance it’s heavy and solid frame. Well-chosen pieces such as the black plant containers, vases and white lamps add dimension and ground the larger pieces, tying the whole design together.

First of all, those coming from the industrial metropolitan world, those tied to old-time lofts where the raw materials, starting from wood, the metals oxidized by time and the big shelves are the most tangible signs of a recent past that resurfaces today more contemporary than ever.

It gives a result that is both sophisticated and contemporary and since it is neither too blue nor too green, it contrasts perfectly with antique brass cabinet handles.

Maybe you want your kitchen to stand out from the pack. Even though black might not be used extensively in the Scandinavian kitchen, you can still employ it in a clever and creative fashion to delineate spaces, highlight architectural features, anchor the light, bright kitchen, and create visual contrast. A black kitchen range, cabinets, a hood or even an island can instantly shape a fascinating focal point in an otherwise neutral space. If black seems too heavy visually for your kitchen, try darker shades of gray or even deep blue instead.
