Though it leaves a moodier and bolder finish, it still is period-appropriate and is perfect especially where black is seen to send out a too masculine or too contemporary vibe.

How you normally live and what you plan on using the kitchen space for, is another deciding factor between peninsulas and islands. As mentioned earlier, peninsulas generally close off a certain section of the kitchen by creating a border between the cooking space and the dining or living space. If you don’t plan on doing lots of entertaining in your kitchen and you want a bit of privacy when cooking, a peninsula is a much better choice than an island in your kitchen.

Look for local artisans who hand-make their wares; scope out stores that sell unfinished pieces so you can add your own spin; scour vintage shops for furniture with a history; or, if possible, commission a one-of-a-kind piece to be made from reclaimed natural materials.

This is the Loft’s spirit, perfectly inspired by an urban mood rich with references and suggestions. First of all, those coming from the industrial metropolitan world, those tied to old-time lofts where the raw materials, starting from wood, the metals oxidized by time and the big shelves are the most tangible signs of a recent past that resurfaces today more contemporary than ever.

Go for elements that will fit the space in your kitchen perfectly. The square inches must be utilized to the maximum too. This will help to avoid having spaces in the corners.

But having a white kitchen does not make it automatically ‘Scandinavian’, and you need additional elements such as soft wooden tones, lovely lighting that drives away any dark corners and a hint of color to achieve the transformation. Clean straight lines, a clutter-free environment and smart organizational solutions help in achieving that fabled Scandinavian look.

In this kitchen, marble countertops and a marble backsplash add a touch of luxe to a super-modern space. Also worth a look: the combination of full-height upper cabinets on the right with a single shelf, which helps to open up the sink area, and the open shelving room divider which provides a place to display pretty dishes and also helps to define the kitchen.

We absolutely love how the bright blue vent and oven are striking through the vaguely white and gray tones that prevail in this beautiful Scandinavian kitchen. The center of the kitchen, the kitchen island is surely the main charmer due to its perfect design, giant size and smart storage space add a functional and aesthetic value to this kitchen.

I love the way this kitchen, mixes different tones: the navy cabinets, the light grey-green of the Swedish stove, the white of the range hood. There are a lot of features here that are common to the other kitchens, like the marble countertops, square tile, and gold fixtures, but it is the detailing (and placement) of the stove in particular that makes this kitchen unique: placing the stove, and therefore the range hood, in the center of the room makes it a celebrated feature, and the symbolic heart of the whole kitchen.
